About

The premise of my work lies in the physicality and processes of material, using wax, clay, lead and graphite to make organic forms.  I work across painting and sculpture and am interested in the expanded notion of what drawing can be: sculpture, an action and a thought.  Directness and immediacy; line and mark making all underlie my practice.  Through the act of making and presenting, I try to understand and relate to a space.  I'm interested in philosophies about mapping and time, in the ephemeral and in the traces of actions. Particularly, I have been looking at the repetitive motion of the water, the tides of the river and how this refers to my own ideas about the notion of time passing.  I am fascinated with the idea of archiving and creating objects from repetitive, natural elements, which by their nature cannot be archived.  I strive for a purity of form, resulting in line becoming object and expression.
